June 1, 1971. A bomb exploded at Plaza Miranda during a political rally of the Liberal Party. There were around 100 casualties and 10 deaths. Starting that time, the popularity of Benigno Aquino and his Liberal Party grew rapidly. Marcos blamed the communists for suspicious bombing.
I got so caught up while reading things about 1971 and decided to post extra 1971-stuff here. I had FUN discovering significant infos about my birth year.
This stamp was released in February 1971 (my birth month and year) The stamp shows former president Ferdinand Maros and First lady Imelda Marcos harvesting rice.

love the stamp, and i can still remember the P5 bill :) I am not sure if we still have that
Thank you for participating, I love the old money photos, and you are just a year younger than my husband. We all seem to be right around the same age group, give or take a few.
I was not yet born during this year but I still remember the old bills and coins. I still have one of those 5 peso bill. Nice research!
Wow, you still have all these items!
Things haven't changed much in 20yrs - we still have political rallys and people still die. Beauty Pagents back then seemed so much more realistic in comparison to todays ones. Dirty Harry, Clock Work Orange - this was a significantly intersting movie and one for NZ that definitely pushed the boundaries...John Denver - Take me Home Country Road was great. Memory Lane is definitely a nice place to visit.
That was some great music from that year. I love the song “It's Too Late” by Carole King.
Those were really interesting times. Marcos was already in power and he will declare martial law a year after (1972).
I still remember those 5peso bills.
I have a copy of the book "A Clock Work Orange" but haven't read it yet. I've watched The Exorcist at least twice. I know most of the Carpenters songs by heart. And You've Got a Friend is a fave, too.
I guess that shows we have a lot of things in common even though I was born in 1977.
I enjoyed revisiting the past with you as a guide Teacher Tes. :D
Interesting trivia!
