This is an overdue blog, I almost forgot about it until I received several photos from Brent Broussard, Houston Astros Youth Group Coordinator.
Two Fridays ago, I was caught up in a hectic day -to say the least- First, I took four of my boys to another school for the district-wide Reading Rodeo After which, we returned to a school that was generally festive. Friday (May 8, 2009) was the culmination of the Teachers’ Appreciation Week -free lunch (shrimp and fish –yum!) treats and gifts, raffle draws, games, etc. Instead of the usual 3PM, we had to leave a bit later than usual for the “Deal or No Deal” game. I did not win anything *grins* but Poorva, my carpool buddy, pulled out a fifty! ($50 -Yey for her!)
As part of Teachers’ Appreciation Week, the Region 4 District Teachers of the Year for 2008-2009 – in which I am one of —were treated to a baseball game. Each one of us was able to take three people –I went with Doods (my hubby) and friends, Cherry and Max. It was not an ordinary game, as part of the treat –we were honored in the playing field. Warning: celebrity complex acting up! Hahaha! Well, it’s not every day we get a chance to walk in an active playing field and wave to thousands of people while a touching speech is being said about us (teachers). Yikes! The exciting part is we got to meet some of the players. Here’s the thing: am not well versed with baseball. Much as I was wearing my Astros (Houston’s baseball team) shirt, there was really nobody I know among the players (sad right! Ask me about basketball, I might have an answer) At any rate, I found out later from Doods that we were in the wrong dugout. Geez! We were in the opponents’ dugout (hehe) I hardly know anyone from the San Diego Padres, but had to admit they do look good! Eye-candy… yum! Teehee!
At the Minute Maid Park with Che and Max (Doods is the photographer)
It was the first time I watched a baseball game at Minute Maid Park. The cheering and the clapping really pepped the people up. But the “human wave” was the thing that fascinated me the most. And for my kindergarten kids, I had my photo taken with the Astros’s mascot –Junction Jack- cool huh.
Junction Jack -Astros’s mascot
I met another Filipino teacher –Michael. He was right behind me in the line. He is also the District Teacher of the Year in their district (Galena Park ISD). Mabuhay ang Pinoy!

Astros won –yey! We enjoyed ourselves. Sharing an experience with friends doubles the fun! Thanks, Che and Max for joining us! I am also grateful to the organizers. Thank you Astros and Brent Broussard for giving us a chance to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Hi Tes, I am glad I can make a comment now here :) I love your picture with the Mascot, wow, I never remembered we were given an honor like that as a group of teachers in a public event, bravo to the teachers indeed. Maybe that is the reason why I wanted to move from college to high school teaching, so that I can really be called a teacher :) exciting!
Tes sounds like you had a smashing good time. How nice of the team to honor you all. What a special day.
Congratulations and it sounded like a fun day at the ball park.
Aww, that was nice!
Congrats!! It sounds like you had a really good time at the ballpark. The human wave is always awesome when done in the midst of thousands of others :)
Congratulations! You deserve all the good time after devoting your time and talent to your pupils.
You should have a blow up pic of you and Junction Jack. :) Good to convert for a personal post card. :)
