The Color Purple

It’s a lazy Saturday morning, I was snooping around the blogosphere earlier today when I stumbled upon this photo challenge. I like what they are featuring today, “The Color Purple.” This is the color of my birthstone –for February- Amethyst. I only found out about the challenge today, so instead of new photos, I just rummaged through my archive and found several "purples" -all of which are flowers (taken during our Asia tour last July 2009).

To be overcome by the fragrance of flowers is a delectable form of defeat. ~Beverly

Earth laughs in flowers. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, "Hamatreya"

If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom. ~Audra Foveo

Look at us, said the violets blooming at her feet, all last winter we slept in the seeming death but at the right time God awakened us, and here we are to comfort you. ~Edward Payson Rod

Give me odorous at sunrise a garden of beautiful flowers where I can walk undisturbed.
~Walt Whitman

Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity. ~John Ruskin

A flower's appeal is in its contradictions - so delicate in form yet strong in fragrance, so small in size yet big in beauty, so short in life yet long on effect. ~Adabella Radici

The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size. ~Gertrude S. Wister

Flowers have spoken to me more than I can tell in written words. They are the hieroglyphics of angels, loved by all men for the beauty of their character, though few can decipher even fragments of their meaning. ~Lydia M. Child

I like your purple post. Such a good variety of flowers, but still containing shades of purple. How can I pick one as a favorite when they are all so good?

The flowers are truly inspiring - a wonderful work of God's creation. ONLY - Their beauty fades, but the beauty of the Word of God stands forever. God bless.

excerpt from Untitled (3rd stanza, penned June 10 of '09)

Flowers love undauntedly.
They dare to be whoever they are.
Received with admiration and affection
or rejected in malice and dismay,
they just love freely.
By the same token, as joints start to creak and complain,
the heart loves better,
giving without expecting,
offering without demanding
plainly happy to have shared
or given in whole.
