Life-size Books

Talk about big books. . . these cardboard illustrations are not just big. . . they are life-sized (well, er, life-size for kids). We used these in one of the annual plays we had in our district. It's called Reading Rodeo. It's a district-wide competition that has different categories. There is the Dramatic Reading (4-character choral recitation) which I did last school-year (Clean and Green). The Solo Declamation, and the category that made use of these props, Story Time Comes Alive (maximum of 8 characters). Everybody looks forward to this once-a-year event. These backdrops won first place, but most of all, my kids enjoyed hearing the story (they love) matched with a life-sized book! They had a blast watching me paint those.

The cool part is, I painted those on cheap corrugated boards which I initially quick-spray with white. Looking at the other props, I think our school had one of the cheapest backdrops (hehe) Innovation is part of the game! :) Left over money from our budget has been used for getting treats for the kids (participants) Yey!

At the Petting Zoo

My students with their huge story book, almost as big as them!

At the Farm (ever been to the Farm Town at facebook?)

This backdrop is also good for Old McDonald (animal sounds)

You must be an incredible teacher, Tes...such a brilliant and child friendly idea. These would be a lovely idea for the waiting room of our child sexual abuse agency ( of course, I am no longer there ) and I think they would be a adjunct for the therapy areas as well. Something like this might help kids relax a little bit and not feel so frightened.

Of course, I would not want to plagiarize your wonderful idea!

Splendid creative minds. I admire your artistic attribute in painting and drawing to which I am lacking. So lovely! If there is anything I indulged my children with when they were young, it's Books! They are still as good as new because we keep them well. And soon grandchildren will make use of them one day. Keep up the noble work! Thanks for following my blog.
