Oleander

I went to our garden looking for bugs to photograph, instead my eyes were caught by our oleander -profusion of tiny pale-pink flowers. I realized I have photographed and featured exotic blooms from other places, but have not done so with our oleander, who, for years have delighted us with generous blooms. It has been in the garden for a long time now -some 4 years already.

Today, am featuring our very own oleander -simple but generous in giving us delight. May these blooms bring you glad tidings as you begin your day and bring you peace as you end it.

Have a good day, friends!

Wake up, little flower. . . a new day is here!

perfectly IMperfect!

wake up and join your sisters

Thank you, oleander!

I cut some to put in a vase. Our oleander keeps me company -outdoors and in.

Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity ~ John Ruskin

Oleanders are so beautiful but, perhaps, others may not know as I didn't when I first moved to Florida as a young wife 40 years ago, "Oleander is one of the most poisonous plants in the world and contains numerous toxic compounds, many of which can be deadly to people, especially young children." I bought my first house there and was carefully doing the landscaping with my toddler in mind." I was told that even consumption of one leaf could prove fatal to a small child. I thought it was so strange that the state planted these all along the causeways around public beaches, with signs telling people not to use the branches to roast hotdogs. They were certainly spectacularly beautiful, though!!!

Your macros are beautiful, what a magnificent flower. I have only seen photos of this plant but none as lovely as yours.

Do they have a scent?

Oleanders also are white and other shades of pink....they may be other colors as well but that's what I've seen.

Thank you everyone for your kind words! Made my day!

Thank you my not-so-insane friend, rNSANE (cute pen name, btw) I appreciate the info (and warning) about oleander, Really alarming but forewarned is forearmed. Sadly, I have four thick bushes of oleanders (about 1.5 meters in circumference already) I will have to get rid of it, I won't take chances. In fact, thinking about it now...I remember we have a rabbit that died and we thought it was the orchid that poisoned him, it could be the oleander...

Again, Thanks Rnsane! :)

What a very beautiful series of photographs. Your oleander is magnificent. When we lived in California we had some bushes in our garden. I loved them. Thank you very much for sharing them with Today's Flowers.

Beautiful pictures. When you get a chance I would love to know what camera you have. I should just do a post and ask people. I am going to get a new one and can't decide.

RNSANE comes from my profession - registered nurse, sexual assault nurse examiner....the police used to tease me that it certainly was NOT my mental status!!! At any rate, so many of the world's most beautiful flowers and shrubs are poisonous but I had no idea that oleander was really deadly. Read up on them...you may not need to get rid of them but, with really young children in a family, they might not be the best choice of plants!

How do you make ordinary things look extra-ordinary in photos? Your shots are so good,I can't help but admire even the "imperfect" petals.
