Hiking Shoes

My husband and his friend, Marlon always goes out to hike and do photo-hunts. I do not always go with them. I use to be an indoor type of person, busy with my crafts and in going online. But early this year, when I was pronounced in remission, I decided to give in to my hubby's invitation to join them not only in the hikes, but in photography as well. Hubby gave me my very first DSLR camera, I tried it and cam and I hit it off right away. This site is a testament of how addicted I am to photography.

Now, the hiking is another matter. Lately, the hikes are becoming frequent and becoming longer. It's my feet that takes the beating. I am not prepared to hike and am not properly attired. The truth is, my feet are already tired from standing for long periods of time in the classroom, so I need to protect my feet from additional stress. First stop, hiking shoes. Doods said, it is wise to invest in a good pair of hiking shoes. I need a pair that can carry me far, fast and comfortably. Doods also added, it should be as light and comfortable as possible, while also keeping my feet dry, warm and well-protected. Hiking also requires sturdy, dependable backpack . I will look into this also.

I came across these interesting pair. Columbia Gaia Omni-Tech. Perfect for rugged trail and to protect the foot from fatigue and impact. Sounds like the kind I need.

But the shoes is not the only issue, it is equally important for us to look for an online store that we feel comfortable doing business with. At least one that has a wide variety of choices, meaning not just shoes. It is a huge thing for us to choose a store that offers FREE shipping. Sometimes, we spend time canvasing and checking an item's availability only to find out we need to shell out a couple more dollars on unreasonably-priced shipping cost, that only pops up at the very end of the transaction. One just feels short-changed when these things happen. Finding a trustworthy store saves us a lot of time and hassle.

Your husband is right...the right shoes should be used, it's the quality. I hike and I trust my hiking shoes, and also my running shoes. Hiking is fun Tes... you can see lots of interesting things and your camera will appreciate them very much.

Agree! The right shoes is important! :)Well hiking can be considered dangerous too. So we'd better put on a pair of shoes that have good grip! :)

It is good to have suitable shoes for hiking to protect your feet and keep you comfortable. I enjoy shopping online, for so many things including shoes.

Not too loose, not too tight... just right... running shoes are not hiking shoes... hiking shoes are not for running... it is different in feeling.

Photography is addictive... I take everything I can now and try to show it off in my blog... But of course sometimes, I just find it uninteresting and throw it away. My mom on the hand thinks I am crazy haha... but she doesn't know what is blogging nor photography. So I can't blame her...

I am still learning, and wish to be good some day :).

Tes, George and I have done alot of hiking through the years. It is important to have good hiking shoes and/or boots. I like the 'above the ankle' hiking boots that I wear most of the time (unless we are walking on pavement). The boots give me more support.

We also have hiking sticks (one for each hand). They tie to our wrists and are like having two more feet...

Good Luck finding the 'right' online store. Some hiking things are better to get if you go to a place like Gander Mountain or Outdoor World.

Hugs,
Betsy

I won't last more than three blocks, Tes...But I know that without comfortable shoes, I can't stand too long either..So, the right shoes make a different.

I'm glad you're now a hiker! More photos for me to see :-)

Yes, a good pair of lightweight hiking boots are a must! I suggest you buy a half size larger than you usually wear, and put on a couple pairs of socks to help further shock absorb--usually a wicking pair follwed by a thick pair. You do not want your toes to hit the shoe especially when going downhill.

I'm am glad to hear you have a good bill of health now. The camera and hikes will open a new world of wonder and fitness for you!

I love hiking which is simply walking. It is important to be wearing the proper pair of shoes to avoid injury. Zappos is a great place to shop online. First of all it is free shipping and has great customer service.

welcome to the wonderful world of hiking and discovering the beauty of our backroads and natural world Tes. I am glad to know you are enjoying your hikes.

yes, a very good quality hiking shoes is a must if you want to take care of your feet and avoid injuries. I simply can not hike anymore without wearing proper hiking shoes. My running shoes are for running, my tennis shoes are for tennis, and hiking shoes for hiking :) i actually wear 4 different kinds of hiking shoes, one for backpacking, two for medium trails, and one for simple trails, there is just simply no uniform shoes for all activities. though i love zappos because they have cheaper birkenstock and mephisto, but have never tried buying from them hiking shoes, will try to look into them if they have my favorite hiking shoes.
