Makahiya

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every Thursday of October, Christina of Soul Aperture will host Pink Thoughts. Post something pink and share a thought.

These are tiny wild flowers. In the Philippines we call it "Makahiya" (the shy one) If you have come across these weeds, then you are familiar with its peculiar trait: the leaves 'fold' whenever it is touched. When we were younger, we use to play a contest of trying to pick a leaf without making it fold. To this day, I do not remember anybody being able to do it. You can give it a try. I always do when I see one.

I walked in our yard yesterday, saw the cute pink flowers and had fun snapping. What I didn't know was that these weeds bear fruit.

I like the super-tiny balls (at the tip of each petal) that look as if they will glow in the dark.

As it grows older, the straight petals become crooked and the center of this flower becomes enlarged.

Can you see the glowing balls at the tip of the petals?

It slowly looses it's vibrant pink petals to give birth to its fruits.

This is how the fruits look like. Petals are all gone.

I challenged myself to take a clear angle of the hairy side of the fruit. Can you see how hairy it is?

This flower ceases to be what it is to give way to the birth of a new being. But then again, that fruit carries something of the flower inside itself. . . and the cycle of life goes on. . .

Thank you for sharing this. It is quite lovely and your photos of it are wonderful. I love how you say that there is something of the flower inside the fruit, I so agree.
