World Cup 2010 in South Africa

Wow, the FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament that is scheduled to take place this June 2010 is going to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa. How cool is that! It will be the first time that a tournament will be hosted by an African nation. South Africa won against Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process.

This 2010 FIFA World Cup is the 19th already. It is scheduled to take place between June 11 and July 11, 2010. This event is a culmination of a series of qualifying games that started in August of 2007. This involved 204 teams and as such it matched the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations.

Tes, you've done a wonderful pictoral and narrative description of so much that South Africa has to offer. I've not yet had the opportunity to visit this incredible country but I have many Royal Caribbean crew friends from there and I hope I can go someday. I am a very big fan of their pinotage wine, that's for sure!

Thanks for this beautiful travelogue. It is wonderful that they will host the World Cup.

World cup next year. Our footballers are going there of course.:))) We are inn. To go there will still be expensive Tes. The plane and most expensive will be the tickets if you can get them after all. I think most of them have been given to sponsors and football leages of various countries. But every game will be on our national TV so we are still alright. My husband and all 4 sons played football so a lot of fans in our home.
Have a nice day, Riet
