My garden is a playground not only to my nieces and their friends, but also to a lot of other species. Most often than not I am the invisible spectator to a lot of colorful and interesting shows.
Here is a male Carolina Anole Lizard, expanding his dewlap to attract a female lizard.
Like most animals, the male often has the brighter and more vibrant coloring.
After attracting the attention of the unsuspecting female, the male proceeds to pursue her in an exciting chase.
Just with this one-time mating, if successful, the female can lay as many as 10 eggs or more in successive batches called clutch. After laying her eggs in a warm soil or compost, she will take no care of it. It will take about 30-45 days for the eggs to incubate.
This scene fills me with anticipation. If all goes well, I expect to see little green and brown lizards in the yard before the next season begins.
I like the idea of other pleasant creatures enjoying our yard.

It just isn't fair that the guys automatically get the beauty and we, ladies, have to work for it. No matter, he seemed pretty drawn to his damsel. Great shots!!!

oh Tes, these are fun pictures! earlier at school, I only saw the 2nd pic and the rest I could not see, I was so impressed! I am glad I came back, these pictures brought me laughter, wish I were there too, but glad through you I was able to enjoy these priceless lizard moments :)

Those are great photos! Green anoles are interesting critters (and a lot more work as pets than people think, I wish they weren't always sold as beginner's lizards)

The male is handsome but the female didn't seem to be admiring his good looks.
