Mini Animals

Posted by Virgil Burks

I was watching direct Satellite tv and saw a documentary on breeding miniature animals. The show highlighted the most popular mini-breeds. I was surprised by some of the mini-animals that are bred and are available for purchase as family pets. Anything that is much smaller than it should and “baby” strikes my heartstrings. Maybe it is my latent maternal instinct. They showed the famous miniature horses and popular miniature dog breeds. Apparently the most popular new pet is the mini potbellied pig! They can be housetrained and behave like a lap dog. The pigs are affectionate, learn their name, and have a lifespan of up to eighteen years. The unusual miniature animals were the mini-cow (is this where sliders come from?), mini- lemurs, and miniature cats the size of a guinea pig! They even showed pygmy goats. They said they are great house pets, but have a chewing problem (imagine that!). The funniest of them all was a pygmy hedge hog that fit perfectly into a boiled egg cup. There is just something about mini-animals that makes me happy.
